SUMMARY:Abrakadabra
DESCRIPTION:Well-known in southern California for its driving propulsive jazz/pop rhythms\, Abrakadabra boasts a library of 50+ original compositions\, as well as an extensive cover playlist.  Influenced by bands like Malo\, War\, El Chicano and Santana\, Abrakadabra is a high-energy\, versatile group fusing Island\, Latin\, Funk\, Reggae\, Pop and Rock\, and adding its own jazzy melodies and pop harmonies to create its unique musical signature. \nIn the ‘80s Abrakadabra was the house band at Hermosa Beach’s legendary Lighthouse\, consistently playing to sold-out crowds. \nThe group also performed extensively at county fairs and city-sponsored festivals\, as well as in the area’s popular bars and clubs on the LA jazz circuit with groups Los Lobos and Chicago. \nAfter the group disbanded in 1986\, they still occasionally played together and officially reformed in 2006 with some of their original members. They have been treating fans to sold-out performances in local clubs\, festivals\, street fairs\, winery concerts and at charity benefits. \nSilenced by the Covid pandemic\, in 2021 Abrakadabra shifted gears into a totally instrumental format with founding member Jon Coleman (guitar\, marimba\, vibraphone)\, John Rodgers (acoustic and electric bass) and Vince Brooks (drums\, percussion). \nAbrakadabra tears it up with its high energy driving percussion on favorites from Latin Jazz to Standards to Pop to wonderful originals that will have you up on your feet and partying with the band!

Check back here for details as the event approaches. \n– Anyone wishing to tour an active duty ship will need to come to the main event EXPO to board a free ship tour shuttle. Ship tour lines are inside the EXPO footprint and are open to the public from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily from Friday\, May 23\, through Monday\, May 26. \n– Ship tour lines will close promptly. \n– The main event EXPO is located at 250 S. Harbor Blvd.\, San Pedro\, CA 90731 – directly adjacent to the Battleship IOWA. \n– Please wear closed-toed shoes. She also recently sang back up on Cody Johnson’s radio single “Nothing on You.” \nIn 2020\, Myles won Artist and Record of the year for the Nashville Industry Music Awards for her debut album “Therapy\,” receiving praise from Rolling Stone\, Billboard\, and American Songwriter. Recently Myles got a cut on Ty Herndon’s new record as a songwriter. \nMyles’ songs are shaped from her many years as a nanny to a mother diagnosed with ALS. Recently\, Myles lost her close cousin to brain cancer\, not too long after their grandfather passed away from a brain tumor. \nMyles competed on season 22 of ‘The Voice’ on NBC\, where she received a four chair turn in four seconds singing her rendition of “Hallelujah.” Her views add to over 30 million for her performances on the show. Myles finished in the Top 3 of the competition. \nAfter her performance of Lady Gaga’s “Always Remember Us This Way” dedicated to her late cousin and grandfather\, the Glioblastoma Foundation named her the National Ambassador of the Foundation in February of 2023. DESCRIPTION:The Golden West Pops has been playing as a group since September 2003. It has performed mostly “Pops” band music with a wide variety of styles – from Ragtime to Rock with some show tunes\, patriotic music and show classics thrown in. \nGolden West Pops conducts rehearsals at the Costa Mesa Women’s Club\, and it draws approximately 40 volunteer musicians from across Southern California. While occupations and musical experiences vary among its members\, they all have a serious interest in providing a high quality performance for their audiences. \nMembers are engaged in diverse employment ranging from homemakers\, lawyers and engineers\, teachers\, medical professionals\, students\, business owners\, and retirees to name a few. DESCRIPTION:Mini Therapy Horses was founded in 2008 by Victoria Nodiff-Netanel and is a recognized leader in equine assisted activities (EAA) therapy and equine assisted therapy (EAT) with miniature horses. \nMini Therapy Horses conducts regular visits at Shriners for Children Medical Center in Pasadena\, Ronald McDonald House in both Pasadena and Los Angeles\, the Department of Children and Family Services Juvenile Court\, UCLA Ronald Reagan Medical Center\, UCLA Santa Monica Hospital\, the Greater Los Angeles Veteran’s Hospital and L.A. Family Housing\, amongst others. Whether comforting children bedside after surgery as they come out of anesthesia or visiting with a veteran who just wants to sit quietly and share space with one of our horses\, the MTH team is there to bring a sense of calm\, comfort and happiness. \nAs members of the LA Mayor’s Crisis Response Team\, our highly trained teams offer resources and support to survivors of traumatic incidents city-wide. These little horse heroes have responded to tragedies like the mass shootings in San Bernardino\, Las Vegas and Thousand Oaks and also served as first-responders during the Woolsey Fire. \n​Mini Therapy Horses has proudly participated in the Rose Parade® in 2016\, 2018\, 2019\, 2020 and 2022. Our award winning program has been featured in numerous publications and television shows\, including The Kelly Clarkson Show\, California Live\, People Magazine and National Geographic’s\, This Book Is Cute: The Soft and Squishy Science and Culture of Awe. \n​MTH is proud to be a Guidestar Platinum certified organization as well as an Equus Guardian.

DESCRIPTION:They’re here – active duty ships and they’re open for you to tour! \nA few need-to-know points regarding ship tours: \n– No reservations or tickets needed to tour active duty ships. Tours are free and are offered on a first-come\, first-served basis. \n– Anyone wishing to tour an active duty ship will need to come to the main event EXPO to board a free ship tour shuttle. Ship tour lines are inside the EXPO footprint and are open daily from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm\, Friday-Monday\, May 26-29\, 2023. \n– Ship tour lines will close promptly at 3 pm. \n– The main event EXPO is located at 250 S. Harbor Blvd.\, San Pedro\, CA 90731 – directly adjacent to the Battleship IOWA. \n– Please wear closed-toed shoes. For your safety\, flip flops and high-heeled shoes are strongly discouraged. \nIMPORTANT: The only way to reach the ship tour location is by shuttle from the main event EXPO. There is no personal vehicle or pedestrian access to the ship tour area. \n  \nNOTE: Battleship IOWA tours are separate and may be purchased on site or in advance. Current enlisted military and veterans with proof of service are free of charge during Memorial Day weekend.
